Frequently Asked Questions

AWS Community Veterinary Clinic is a full-service Clinic, serving pets in AWS’ care and pets belonging to community members. Please review these common questions for more information on us.

We serve pets in care at AWS (shelter pets) and pets belonging to members of our community. Just like a private practice veterinary clinic, we take appointments from members of the public, for wellness exams, vaccinations, surgeries and more. We are now accepting new patients so please give us a call make an appointment.

If you would like to become an established client, please book a wellness appointment. Our doctors will be able to meet you and your pet and establish a relationship for veterinary care. Please give us a call to become a client of our clinic..

We offer vaccine boosters for pets that received their initial shot during their spay/neuter surgery with us. However, we require a wellness appointment with a veterinarian to establish an official patient/doctor relationship. We encourage folks who have their pets fixed at our Clinic, and do not have an established. vet, to consider becoming a client.

Please call the clinic 2-3 days prior to your pet’s medication running out. When the prescription is ready for pick up, we will give you a call. We are closed weekends. If you call in a prescription during weekend hours, please be aware that we will fill your pet’s prescription the following business day.

We do not offer general grooming services. We do provide nail trims and medically necessary grooming for animals receiving other services from us.

We are not an urgent care or emergency care clinic. We recommend calling the local emergency animal clinic in the area. These specialized clinics have the ability to take on emergency cases and address your pet’s urgent needs. Please do not leave voicemail with us if you pet is facing an emergency situation. Please see the list of emergency animal hospitals in our area.

We are open Monday-Friday from 9am-5:30pm. We close for lunch from 12pm-1pm everyday. If you call and we cannot get to the phone, please leave a voicemail with specific information pertaining to your needs. We will return your call within 1-2 business days. We ask that you don’t call and keep leaving messages, as it can slow down our response time.

That stands for High Volume, High Quality Spay-Neuter, and it is one of our specialities. Our veterinarians perform spay/neuter surgeries Monday – Friday. Clients drop their pets off in the morning and pick them up the same afternoon. To utilize our spay/neuter services, visit our spay/neuter page.

While we do serve our shelter population of rabbits and small animals, we only see public rabbits and small animals on a case-by-case basis. A small animal clinic is open in York County, right in Kennebunk, in Shoppers Village on Route 1. The Southern Maine Hospital for Small Mammals dedicates its practice to the care of companion mammals like rabbits, rodents, ferrets, chinchillas and hedgehogs. To learn more, call them at (207) 535-9330.

St. Patrick's Day may be over, but we can't miss the opportunity to share this sweet Happy Homes story of a dog previously named Shamrock. Adopted from us years ago, his human sister wrote in to tell us how happy she is with her best friend, now named Coda. We'd definitely say he's one lucky little shamrock alright!

"Coda is just the most amazing dog ever! He is so humorous and adventurous and I could not think of another reason that I would ever wake up early and walk in below freezing temperatures. But he inspires me to take that nightly stroll! He is so fluffy and loves being snuggled and going to his occasional ice cream stops. I got him when he was just a puppy and I was only in 2nd grade. Now I am 17 and we sure have grown up together. I love him!" 🍀

We love Happy Homes stories like these! Share your own with us by writing in online or posting below!

Happy National Puppy Day! One of the best ways to celebrate your furry friend is to learn how to keep them healthy and safe. And since March also happens to be Flea and Tick Prevention Month, now is the perfect time to review where those pesky parasites could be hiding. Ticks like to attach where they can't easily be removed by the host!

Making sure your pets are up to date on their flea, tick, and parasite medications is the best way to keep them safe from unwanted guests. Even in the winter months, pets should be on preventatives. Happy spring to you and your pup!
