We're located at 36 Sea Road in Kennebunk, Maine at the entrance to the Recycling Center.
A Great Place!
The Kennebunk Dog Park is a town of Kennebunk recreational facility operated for the benefit of the greater Kennebunk community including the towns of Kennebunk, West Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel. The park provides a safe, fenced, natural environment where dogs can exercise and socialize off-leash. It is free and open to the public every day from dawn to dusk.
A generous gift to the Animal Welfare Society of West Kennebunk in 2004 initiated the park concept. The Animal Welfare Society worked to establish this public park by inviting the community to get involved. An enthusiastic group formed the Kennebunk Dog Park Committee. The town of Kennebunk responded to this citizen initiative by allocating and preparing the Sea Road site as a permanent location and by agreeing to provide regular trash pick-up at the park.
The all-volunteer Kennebunk Dog Park Committee manages the park. They coordinate administrative matters, maintain the grounds and raise funds to keep things going. The Animal Welfare Society is represented on the Committee and continues to be a major supporter. The AWS can receive tax-deductible contributions for the Kennebunk Dog Park. The AWS has also agreed to serve as a communication link with the Committee to relay concerns and suggestions. The Committee welcomes all of those interested in joining the effort to make this a great canine park!
On Saturday, August 9, 2008 a gazebo was dedicated to the memory of Gordon and Anna Robinson at the park. The gazebo was a gift from the Gordon Robinson Scholarship Fund. The Robinsons were both animal lovers whose lives were greatly enriched by the companionship of their dogs.
Operation of The Kennebunk Dog Park is totally dependent upon voluntary contribution of goods, services and money. Ongoing expenses include the cost of such items as doggie bags, fence repairs, printing, postage, equipment and other supplies. A Kennebunk Dog Park Fund has been established at the Animal Welfare Society, a non-profit organization. If you would like to make a contribution to The Kennebunk Dog Park Fund, please click here to make a secure online donation, or make checks payable to the Animal Welfare Society with an indication that the money is to go to the Kennebunk Dog Park Fund. Volunteers are also welcome to get involved!
“ANNUAL DOG PARK DOG CALENDAR CALL FOR PHOTOS”
The Kennebunk Dog Park steering committee would like to invite dog owners to submit photos of their canine friends for their 2011 Dog Calendar. Send a hard copy photo – printed out from your computer is fine (a digital image will be needed for the calendar - photos will not be returned) with your name, address, tel/cell phone number where you can be reached, email address and dog’s name/s with a $5 entry fee per photo. Checks should be made out to AWS-Dog Park. Mail all info to Leah Fitch, 11 Penwood Drive, Kennebunk, ME 04043. Deadline for entries is September 25. Leah will be in touch to let you know when to send your digital images.
The calendar is the dog park’s major fund raiser of the year. For anyone who has not seen one, a dog photo is the centerfold for each month with several postage stamp images of other dogs on the page. The committee does a random drawing assigning each photo a number. Corresponding numbers are put into a box and randomly drawn. The calendar is a heavy card stock with color images, spiral bound, measuring about 6”x8”. They sell for $10 each...a bargain and a nice gift! They will be available in early December if not sooner at Reigning Cats and Dogs and other locations to be announced. We look forward to seeing your pup in print!!
Also, if you are searching for a way to honor your ‘best friend’ or a friend’s beloved pet, have a brick engraved at the Dog Park. This is a lasting memorial that you and the park visitors are able to enjoy during their visits. Brick inscriptions begin with a gift of $75.00 and can be given anytime throughout the year. The 3.5”x8” bricks can be imprinted with three lines of up to 20 characters per line. A sample brick and order forms are available at Scalawags Pet Boutique, 24 Ocean Ave. (upstairs in the Union Square Shops) Kennebunkport, online at www.kennebunkdogpark.org or email Kerrie Robinson at the Animal Welfare Society: Kerrie@animalwelfaresociety.org or call: 207-985-3244.
The Animal Welfare Society oversees the Kennebunk Dog Park, which is an independent entity, totally run and funded by volunteer and user contributions. The park’s current fund raising is dedicated to ongoing maintenance and enhancing usability of the park.
