Job Opening: Animal Care Technician
POSITION SUMMARY: The Animal Care Technician (a member of the Adoption Center team) provides for the daily care, safety and enrichment of animals housed at AWS and ensures all cleaning standards and protocols are met.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work collaboratively within all levels of the organization and across departments to cultivate a positive culture and team approach to fulfilling AWS’ mission
- Develop, share and use approved tools and processes to contribute to efficient workflow
- Clean and maintain all animal housing areas
- Conduct animal adoption counseling and convey animal behavior and medical records to adopters in a way that is easily understood
- Complete animal adoptions, ensure all transaction paperwork and computer records are complete and accurate
- Responsible for properly handling financial transactions
- General cleaning of facility including laundry
- Feed, care, bathe, and medicate animals
- Provide excellent customer service at all times
- Perform incoming health evaluations for animals admitted into care
- Notify supervisor of sickness or injury of animal or person in the facility, needed supplies, faulty equipment, and inappropriate behavior of visitors or volunteers
- Remain knowledgeable and in compliance with AWS Personnel Guidelines, applicable State and Federal laws and AWS policies, procedures and programs
- Support programs and activities of AWS as requested
EXPERIENCE/ATTRIBUTES DESIRED:
- Experience in a direct animal care facility/animal handling
- Ability to communicate in a positive proactive manner
- Strong inter-personal skills
