Job Opening: Facilities Manager

POSITION TITLE:  Facilities Manager

REPORTS TO:  Director of Administration

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance ofthe Animal Welfare Society’s facilities, equipment, vehicles, and grounds.   Ensures the organization is up to date on safety rules and regulations and daily operations are in compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws.  

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work collaboratively with all levels of the organization and across departments to cultivate a positive culture and team approach to fulfilling AWS’ mission  
  • Ensure preventative maintenance is carried out on a scheduled basis and complete maintenance records for all equipment are kept; evaluates and recommends equipment replacement as needed
  • Obtain cost estimates for supplies, parts and outside vendor equipment repair as needed; ensures most cost-effective options are chosen
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable code requirements
  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings, kennels, outdoor areas, vehicles and equipment to identify issues and coordinate timely repair.
  • Serve as the primary contact for maintenance vendors and contractors. Monitor building systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security systems) to ensure proper function
  • Provide snow removal, lawn maintenance, garden upkeep and landscaping including contractor management 
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for events
  • Member of the Safety Committee and contributes to policy development and oversight
  • Remain knowledgeable and in compliance with AWS Personnel Guidelines, applicable State and Federal laws and AWS policies, procedures and programs
  • Support programs, guide volunteers and other activities of AWS as needed

EXPERIENCE/ATTRIBUTES DESIRED

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or associate’s degree in facility management or a related field preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience in facilities coordination, building maintenance, or a similar role (experience in animal care or nonprofit settings a plus)
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions involved with maintenance, repair and operation of buildings and grounds
  • Knowledge of building systems, facility maintenance best practices, and basic repairs
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently or as part of a team
  • OSHA 10 Hour certification training preferred
  • Willing and able to occasionally assist with handling of animals
  • Work requires use of safety clothing and equipment and compliance with safety rules and procedures

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Flexible work schedule required to support weekend operations and on call availability for facility emergencies outside regular hours
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must have the ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces and access stairways, rooftops, basements
  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments in varying weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment or materials up to 50 pounds.
