Job Opening: Marketing & Communications Intern
REPORTS TO: Marketing Communications Manager
The Opportunity: We’re looking for a creative, motivated Marketing & Communications Intern to join our team this fall. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to gain real-world marketing experience while making a meaningful difference for animals. You’ll work closely with our team on a variety of projects and leave with a portfolio, practical skills, and a deep understanding of how a nonprofit animal welfare organization operates.
This role is ideal for a student or recent graduate pursuing a career in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, or animal welfare.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Pet Visibility – Help create compelling profiles, photos, and promotional content for animals available for adoption to maximize their exposure and help them find homes faster
- Social Media – Develop and schedule engaging content across our social platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc.), including pet spotlights, event promotion, and organizational updates
- Event Support – Assist with planning and execution of AWS events, including community outreach activities and fundraisers
- Marketing Operations – Support day-to-day marketing efforts including email newsletters, donor communications, and website updates
- Storytelling – Help capture and share the stories of our animals, adopters, volunteers, and staff in ways that connect with our community
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Passion for animal welfare and a genuine love of animals
- Interest in pursuing a career in marketing, communications, or the nonprofit sector
- Strong written communication skills and an eye for engaging content
- Organized, self-motivated, and collaborative by nature
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok)
- Graphic design experience a plus (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
- Photography or video editing skills a plus
DETAILS
- Time Commitment: ~10 hours per week, flexible scheduling
- Duration: Late August through December 2026
- Location: Kennebunk, ME (some remote work may be available)
- Compensation: Unpaid internship
