Job Opening: Director of Development and Community Engagement
POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Development and Community Engagement directs and oversees philanthropic programs, communications, and community engagement for the organization. They are responsible for fundraising, grant writing, public relations, and marketing. They also ensure quality programming and excellent customer service in alignment with AWS’s mission, vision, values, and resources.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work collaboratively within all levels of the organization and across departments to cultivate a positive culture and team approach to fulfilling AWS’ mission.
- Work with the Executive Director to set fund development goals and an annual department budget based on the organization’s operational and strategic goals.
- Oversee planning, tracking, and implementation of all major donor identification, cultivation, and stewardship activities.
- Facilitate planned giving and work to grow the AWS Legacy Society.
- Cultivate relationships and promote AWS with potential and current foundation partners and corporate sponsors; prepare proposals and solicit support.
- Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive donor fulfillment and cultivation program using a variety of strategies – direct mail, special events, monthly giving programs, etc.
- Write and submit private foundation grant proposals with the support of other staff.
- Oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing, brand management, and public relations strategy.
- Oversee community programs including inter-agency partnerships, service provision, public appearances, and community engagement.
- Support programs and activities of AWS as requested.
EXPERIENCE/ATTRIBUTES DESIRED:
- Minimum five years of experience in development including donor cultivation/retention, planned giving, capital campaigns, grant writing, and foundation support
- Experience in managing and developing people
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Background in animal welfare preferred
- Proven ability to build teams and maintain a positive culture
- Must meet background check requirements
