Job Opening: Director of Operations
POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Operations provides leadership and support to ensure the efficient and smooth operation of the Adoption Center, Veterinary Clinic, and Training Services including animal intake and placement, clinic operations, training classes, and all supporting programs. The Director ensures quality animal care and enrichment, facilities cleanliness, and excellent customer service. They are also responsible for quality programming that is in accordance with AWS mission, goals, leadership and resources.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work collaboratively within all levels of the organization and across departments to cultivate a positive culture and team approach to fulfilling AWS’ mission.
- Develop, implement, and monitor programs to maintain and improve the standards of humane animal care and customer service to the animals and the community.
- Ensure quality of programs and services are in accordance with AWS policy, procedure and philosophy.
- Develop and implement program enhancements to ensure continued progress in relation to annual and future goals. Develop annual goals that include timetables, procedures, budgets, accountabilities, and periodic audits.
- Direct and supervise Adoption Center, Veterinary Clinic and Program staff in the performance of their responsibilities.
- Responsible for staff acquisition and retention, coaching, evaluations, and training programs for operations and program staff. Ensure applicable licensure and certifications are current and annual training requirements are met for all staff.
- Ensure accurate recordkeeping and maintain quality control; collect and report relevant statistical data.
- Collaborate with department managers to ensure medical needs are identified, animals are receiving timely medical and surgical care, and that treatments are being performed in accordance with AWS’ policy, mission, and resources.
- Direct the overall customer service and quality assurance programs, including regular review and follow-up on internal quality assurance alerts. Respond to specific problems and requests. Serve as a liaison to promote AWS goals with community members, partners, government officials and other stakeholders.
- Monitor programs to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations; ensure safety compliance of staff and take immediate action to correct hazards.
- Contribute to the development an annual budget for operational divisional activities and ensure that it is adhered to.
- Ensure accurate inventory maintenance and monitoring of supplies.
- Actively participate in other departmental programs and projects including marketing, fundraising, outreach, and organizational services as needed and appropriate.
- Represent the organization at outreach events and on committees. Participate in programs and activities as an executive team member.
- Remain knowledgeable and in compliance with AWS Personnel Guidelines, applicable State and Federal laws and AWS policies and procedures, be familiar with AWS mission, vision and values, programs, and services.
- Support programs and activities of AWS as requested.
EXPERIENCE/ATTRIBUTES DESIRED:
- Minimum of five years management experience, including budgetary and staff supervision in an animal welfare organization
- Proven leadership skills in a non-profit organization
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational, planning, and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze facts, devise solutions, and implement plans
- Proven ability to build teams and maintain a positive culture
