Dogs with Blogs

Our dogs love to blog! Check it what they have to say about finding their new home.

NOVEMBER 11

As you know, I’ve been at AWS for a long time. And I’ve noticed on many of my blog posts, I read comments like, “Why are you still there?” “Why haven’t you been adopted?” “Why hasn’t anyone taken you home yet?”

Well, here’s the thing. I’m still at AWS because my friends here are working hard to make sure that my new home is a very special place with the right environment to help me thrive, rather than cause me angst and anxiety. While on the outside I look like every other dog, I’m not like every other dog. My friends here at AWS, including the care staff, veterinarians, and trainers, have worked over the past few months to provide me the environment and medication that I need to stabilize my mental health and keep me calm.

I recently went to a professional pet behaviorist where she made some great recommendations on things to try to help me get a better handle on my mental health. So for now, I’m going back behind the scenes so my AWS friends can keep working with me to find the right path to happiness and stability.

Now, don’t miss me too much. Instead, I ask you to get to know my canine friends here at AWS. In fact, so many of them have been so jealous of my blog, this will give them a shot at penning (or should I say pawing) their own blog. Keep an eye out here on FB and AWS’ website for more doggos with bloggos!

NOVEMBER 2

Hey guys, it’s Carlos here. I’m going to share my blog with my bud Waffles. He’s also available for adoption through AWS. He’s going to tell you why he’s an awesome dog who wants to go home with you!

“Hi! I’m Waffles! I am a goofy, outgoing, happy man looking for my forever home. Although I am almost 8 years old, I am an active pup looking for a home to meet my activity level, with lots of fun activities (hiking, walking, etc) and I would love to be with my person(s) as much as possible. I may be okay sharing a home with a very laid back dog who can tolerate my goofiness, but it would have to be a perfect match, like my old best friend! Overall, I would probably do best as the only pet in the home. I have done well around older kids and some dogs but I secretly like to have all of the attention to myself. I may be active, but I like my home time and I like it decently quiet and laid back. When there’s too much noise or activity, I can become anxious. Did I mention I am the BEST SNUGGLER? To learn more or make an appointment to meet me, please give AWS a call at (207) 985-3244 and ask for Britney. Or you can shoot her an email!”

OCTOBER 30

Last week I had an appointment at the Community Veterinary Clinic right here at AWS. It was time for some booster vaccines, and my friend Dr. Kate gave me a quick exam. Now since I’ve been at AWS, the vets and clinic staff have taken such good care of me, despite me not being the best patient. Yeah, going to the vet is not my favorite thing. But hey, what dog loves the vet?

I know in my heart of hearts that it is important to go to the vet because it keeps me healthy. So I’ll tell you, I prefer my appointments to be quick (and I mean quick!) because otherwise I start to get very anxious. The best advice I can give my new people is: treats go a long way. Be sure to have lots of treats on hand during our appointment, and I’ll do my very best to be a good boy!

OCTOBER 28

Woo hoo!!!!!! I am very excited!!!! You helped me raise enough money for the DNA test. My friends at AWS said they would be ordering it today. I’ll keep you posted! Thank you all!

OCTOBER 27

Do I have a pointer nose? A vizsla tail? A lab build? Bulldog ears? What am I made of? Share your guesses below and make a donation to help me purchase a DNA kit so we can all find out together! My friends here at AWS tell me that if I raise more money than the DNA kit costs, AWS will use the extra money to help with vet care for me and my fellow pets here at AWS (And maybe some extra treats at snack time…..) 🐶

OCTOBER 24

Hi guys! Check me out – I just had a bath (!!!!!) so I’ll be all nice and fresh and clean for my big event on Saturday! Haven’t you heard? It’s Fall for Carlos and Friends, a very special production brought to you by yours truly. I’ll be showing off my tricks and giving out treats in front of AWS on Saturday the 26th from Noon – 1 pm. Come on by and meet me (and some of my fellow AWS canines). I’m ready to fall in love! Aren’t you?

So now back to that bath I just got. I dunno guys, so many people talk about baths being luxurious and relaxing and refreshing. I thought it was meh. I mean, it wasn’t the worst thing in the world. I stood still (mostly) to let my friends scrub-a-dub-dub. But really, it wasn’t the luxurious, relaxing and refreshing event I thought it would be. It was really more like – why am I wet? Man, you gotta scrub behind my ears? More water, really? What are these tiny bubbles? Can I get out now?

So hopefully in my new home, we can reserve baths for only when absolutely necessary!

OCTOBER 21

Hey guys, Carlos here getting ready for Monday Night Football! All you Pats fans out there – you think our boys will be 7-0 after tonight? I sure do! I’ve been thinking – while I’m waiting for my new home, why not expand my horizons? How about the gridiron? I could totally be a football player. I know I’ve got it in me! What position should I play? I’m alert, I’m loud (OVER HERE – I’M OPEN!) and I love to run. Am I the next Gronkowski?

Or maybe I’m best watching the game on the couch like the rest of you. Wings, pizza and a nice cold …. um … water. Yum yum! Go Patriots!

OCTOBER 17

Carlos here, asking what’s your favorite animal? C’mon – everyone has one. 🦁🐯🐻, perhaps? Maybe a 🐷 or a 🐨? My favorite animal? Squirrels. I just love squirrels- LOVE ‘EM! When I’m outside, my mind is like “SQUIRREL! SQUIRREL! SQUIRREL!” Their location is all I think about “Is the squirrel here? Is it there? What about here? What about there? This tree? That tree? Squirrel?! Squirrel!?!? SQUIRREL!!!!!!!” I will check each and every tree, leaf pile and crevice for my favorite little animals. SQUIRREL! SQUIRREL! SQUIIIIIIIRRRRRRREL!! 🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿

OCTOBER 14

Hi guys, Carlos here, reporting to you from the woods near AWS. You know what the coolest thing about Maine is? How beautiful it is and how many opportunities there are for outside adventures. I like to take walks in the woods with my people. Are you a hiker? Do you like spending time in the great outdoors? Do you enjoy all the sights and smells of the woods? Hiking in the woods is really just about my favorite thing to do. There is so much to see and do and sniff! AWS has great hiking trails and my pals take me out all the time. I’d like to explore other trails – maybe ones near where you live? Are you taking a hike today on your day off? Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a buddy like me!

OCTOBER 10

Hi guys, you know what’s funny? I’m a good luck charm here at AWS. Every time I make new friends out in the play yards, they get adopted! I love being a good luck charm but I would love for the luck to rub off on me too.

There seems to be some confusion out there in the world that I have to be the only pet in home. That’s not the case. I like other dogs. I am able to make friends with lots of other dogs. Not every dog, of course, just like you – I’m sure you’re not friends with every single person you meet, but you do like plenty of them. And that’s how I am with dogs – I like most of them but not every single one. And I’m able to make friends off leash. That’s the thing – I do great out in the play yards here at AWS when I can run free and play with my friends or when my friend Kim takes me home to visit with her canine family, but I’m very different on leash. When I’m on leash, I tend to bark at everything I see – cats, squirrels, falling leaves, and even other dogs. So if that’s why you thought I couldn’t be around other dogs, please come see me when I’m not on a leash, when I’m free to run around and play.

If you have a dog and you think your dog and I might be friends (or even siblings some day) please give AWS a call to chat with the adoption counselors. Tell them Carlos sent you!

OCTOBER 7

Happy Monday! Today I thought I’d share my top five rainy day activities:
1. Watch the raindrops make patterns on the window
2. Do my zoomies through the living room
3. Test out and organize all my toys
4. Kick back with a nice pupichino and binge watch my new favorite tv show
5. Make you go out in the rain with me anyway because I don’t mind getting wet!

OCTOBER 4

My friends here told me about another dog, kinda like me, named Big Mac, who lived at AWS for a long time. Big Mac took to social media and wrote what they call a blog to help his new people find him. And boy did it work out! He has the BEST family! Now I don’t consider myself much of a writer but I’m willing to give it a shot. I’d like for you all to get to know me! I’m a dog, so why not have a blog? Should I call it my dog blog, my blog o’dog or my dlog? Check back regularly to learn more about me!
