Charlie Bear 05/31

Meet Charlie Bear, a 9-month old American Shelter Dog. As you might expect from a dog so young, Charlie Bear is very goofy and playful. He is definitely not a couch potato and would love to find a new family who can match his active lifestyle. Charlie Bear likes to keep himself busy and is always ready for a walk, run, or playtime. He loves toys of all varieties, though durable toys have the best chance of lasting long with him. Charlie Bear would be happy to share a new home with rugged children and possibly a canine friend, though he can be particular about the other dogs he associates with. If your home could use some more fun and excitement, then Charlie Bear just might be the dog for you. Stop on by the shelter today to meet him.

The Animal Welfare Society is fortunate to have volunteers who take adoptable dogs through the obedience classes.  They also spend quality time, playing with, walking, and running the dogs. Here’s what some volunteers had to say about Charlie Bear:

“I took Charlie Bear to Kennebunk’s May Day event and he was a fine gentleman! He rode in the car nicely and didn’t try to jump into the front seat. Once there, he walked nicely and remained calm when people came up to us, despite the noise, considerable visual stimulation and overall newness of the situation. He seemed to enjoy himself.” Kathy

“I’ve taken Charlie Bear to several Shelter Dog Obedience classes, and it’s fun to help him learn new skills. His young dog enthusiasm and energy help make him a pleasure to work with. Charlie Bear knows several basic commands and enjoys agility work, especially when treats are involved! He’s very easy to handle with a gentle lead. I’ve heard he sometimes gets a little too rambunctious and plays a little too roughly with other dogs, but he hasn’t done that when I’ve been with him. I’ve only seen him be curious and appropriate towards other dogs. Charlie Bear is a sweet and handsome boy, who’s looking for his family to give him the affection and continued loving guidance that he so deserves.” Susan

“Energetic, very friendly. Went down forest trail to water, seemed very entertained.” Taylor
