Mya 05/16

Meet Mya, a 6-year old Pit Bull Mix. Mya is an extremely loyal and loving girl, though she may take a little time to get used to strangers. Go slow, try not to overwhelm her, and before you know it you’ll have an affectionate companion. She loves playing with squeaky toys; almost too much, as she may not always give them up. Mya would be happy to share a new home with dogs and older children, though she would prefer a quiet, easy going household. This darling lady is impressing a lot of us here at the shelter, and would love to prove how much of an ideal companion she can be in a new home. If Mya sounds like the one for you, then stop on by the shelter today to meet her.

The Animal Welfare Society is fortunate to have volunteers who take adoptable dogs through the obedience classes.  They also spend quality time, playing with, walking, and running the dogs. Here’s what some volunteers had to say about Mya:

“There is nothing greater than falling in love knowing that it will be returned unconditionally and with no strings attached.  One look at Mya is all it takes, your heart does the rest.  When you meet her, I know you will agree, its love at first sight when she looks at you with those adoring eyes.  For someone who recently has gone through more agony and difficulties that anyone deserves, Mya has maintained a positive attitude and love for anything on two or four legs.  Although shy and cautious, she is prepared to be your best friend and lifetime companion.  When you meet her, I know you will agree. It’s great to be in love.” Malte

“I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with Mya on several occasions since she’s been at AWS. The very first day she greeted me with such love and trust that all I could do was hug her  while she showered my face with kisses. She loves having energy work done on her but also just loves spending time with you and/or going for walks. Despite her recent situation she was loved and trained at some point in her life because on our very first meeting she knew the word walk and when I rolled a ball to her she brought it back and dropped it in front of me. She also knows sit, paw and down. Tonight I brought her to an obedience class where she clearly stole the show as well as many hearts. She only showed mild curiosity in the other dogs, but not one ounce of aggression and she spent most of her time either watching them or staring up at me waiting for her next command. She is such a sweet girl and deserves someone who can shower her with as much love and affection as she is so quick to give. If I didn’t already have a full house, I would be taking Mya home with me.” Mary
