The Animal Welfare Society is fortunate to have volunteers who take adoptable dogs through the obedience classes. They also spend quality time, playing with, walking, and running the dogs. Here’s what some volunteers had to say about Rex:
“I took Rex on a road-trip to the hardware store for a MAT event on Saturday and he proved himself to be an adorable, happy, and fun companion! He was a little excited in his kennel (who wouldn’t be at the idea of a walk! or better yet…a RIDE!) but settled down once we took a quick walk on the trails behind the AWS and got away from the commotion. He jumped right in the car and loved to stick his nose out the crack in the window. He is wonderful on the gentle leader (it helps keep his mind focused) and will work hard for yummy treats 🙂 He will lean all of his weight onto you while you pet him and will even step on your foot while doing so making it nearly impossible to leave. But honestly, his fur is so soft and his personality is so sweet, I don’t know why you’d want to stop lovin’ on him 🙂 He is about a year old but is still very “puppy-like” and silly. He was good with everyone he met and just wanted to play with other dogs (even though at MAT events we don’t allow the dogs to interact). He has clearly taken some obedience classes at the AWS with volunteers – he knows sit and paw and is eager to learn more! He is super smart and just needs to learn to focus his brain and energy. I think he would love love love obedience class with his new person – it would teach him to use his smarts and look to his person for direction. Rex is truly a catch – he’s a “puppy” without the pesky potty training and teeny tiny puppy teeth but has the smarts and socialization of an adult dog! He will make an active person or family very happy!” Angela
“After reading Angela’s description of Rex, I figured he would be perfect for the Fashion Show at Huntington Commons. She was absolutely correct, Rex was the ideal male model and easily among the top three that walked the runway that day. He enjoyed every costume that he was able to model, and his enthusiasm and eagerness to show off the latest canine trends elicited many oohs ad ahhs from the audience. I admired his patience and sense of humor and know he had as much fun as I did. A picture of Rex modeling his motorcycle outfit is attached.” Malte
