Shrek 02/14

Meet Shrek, a12-year old American Shelter Dog. Shrek came to us from a hoarding situation, so not a lot is known about his past. He has proven himself to be a social, sensitive, and persistent pooch since coming to us. He can be a bit protective of his territory, but otherwise is a friendly and affectionate boy. Shrek is quite talkative too, so expect to have many conversations with him. He would be happy to share a new home with other dogs, dog savvy cats, and older children. If this unique and sometimes silly fellow sounds like the right dog for you, then stop on by the shelter today to meet him.

Obedience Student

The Animal Welfare Society is fortunate to have volunteers who take adoptable dogs through the obedience classes.  They also spend quality time, playing with, walking, and running the dogs. Here’s what some volunteers had to say about Shrek:

“Shrek was in the kitchen on Thursday night and I brought in two of my after school students to meet him. He was very drawn to the little girl, being more shy of me and the boy. Shrek climbed on the couch and let the little girl pet him and he seemed to smile. Great with respectful, older kids, he may even seem to prefer them.” Megan, AWS Humane Educator

“I guess I am one of the “older Children” (at 69) that Megan is referring to because Shrek and I have become good buddies.  He is a joy to walk because neither of us walks the other, we just naturally adjust to each other’s preferred pace. He is also a very young twelve year old who occasionally likes to act silly and becomes very playful.  I can see Shrek as the perfect companion for a family that wants another member who just wants to be loved in return for the joy he can bring into their lives.  Anyone who makes the effort to meet him will surely agree.” Malte

“Great temperament, well behaved, great companion, very affectionate.”

“What a fun and easy walker!” Beth V
