My name is Truman. I’m a 10+ year old Pomeranian who was found as a stray. I came to the shelter with much of my hair missing because my health had been neglected for so many years. After receiving treatment here at the shelter my hair is finally growing back. But my looks are not the only thing that is unique about me…
I’m a sensitive, quirky, older man who would like to live in a low key, quiet home. I may be cautious of new people and bark at them. I prefer not to live with young children but rather with respectful teenagers and adults who can give me my personal space and treat me well. Even though I enjoy my space, I also like attention. I may even nudge your hand with my nose when I’m in the need for petting.
I am still very alert and active for a senior dog. Daily walks and squeaky toy play are some of my favorite activities. I do well with other dogs in the home but I may not be very playful with them due to my older age. I would like a doggy companion that is low key and can give me space.
I am very treat motivated so I have great potential to learn more manners as well as a few fun tricks. Getting me on a consistent routine right away in my new home will help me with my housetraining. My new family will need to be patient and understanding in helping me learn these skills. It is likely I spent much of my life outside and unattended. I can’t wait to spend my retirement in a warm, happy home.

The Animal Welfare Society is fortunate to have volunteers who take adoptable dogs through the obedience classes. They also spend quality time, playing with, walking, and running the dogs. Here’s what some volunteers had to say about Truman:
“Energetic, very alert, really enjoys walking.” Ed & Diane
“Truman is always delighted to go on walks. You would never know he is a senior, he’s very active and playful and loves to roll around in the leaves. He is quite affectionate and loves attention after his walk.” Rachel
