Thank you so much for your interest joining our team of volunteers at the Animal Welfare Society. Volunteers provide invaluable service to our animals, programs and services. We are grateful for your interest and look forward to welcoming you to the AWS team!

Our volunteers have a wide variety of skills and expertise and we want YOU to get the most of our your time volunteering at AWS. We offer flexible schedules for volunteers and have many different opportunities at our facility and throughout our programs and services.

Volunteer with the Animals

Love animals? Want to spend time with them while they wait for their new homes? We have plenty of things for you to do – all sorts of time commitments and schedules are accommodated and tasks can include:

  • Cleaning kennels
  • Tidying up animal spaces
  • Socializing with cats
  • Walking dogs
  • Taking dogs to training classes
  • And lots more!

Assist with Daily Operations

Regular and occasional volunteers keep our facility in West Kennebunk running smoothly each and every day. There are plenty of ways to help including:

  • Doing laundry
  • Running errands
  • Sorting donations
  • Helping with Youth programs
  • Answering telephone inquiries
  • Greeting guests in the adoption center lobby
  • Assisting with office work (mailings, filing, etc.)
  • And much, much more!

We welcome adult and teen volunteers. Teen volunteers aged 14-15 are invited to volunteer at AWS with a parent/guardian volunteering alongside them. Those aged 16-17 are welcome to volunteer individually with a parent/guardian’s consent. Through our Youth Programs, we offer a number of other special volunteering opportunities for the youth in our community.

When we are accepting new volunteers, we offer preliminary orientation sessions to showcase the many opportunities we have for interested volunteers. Orientations will last about an hour and will include a tour of AWS, including the adoption center, community veterinary clinic and program spaces. No orientations are currently on the schedule. Please check back again soon.
