We welcome students of all ages to work on projects at home that help the animals. The projects can then deliver directly to AWS’ animals during a special Hero Tour. These individualized tours allow students to see first-hand how their support make a difference to the pets at AWS.
Because we can only offer limited on-site volunteer hours for community service students, we encourage all middle and high school students seeking to complete their service hours to do so at home using our At-Home Project Guide as a resource.
The At-Home Project Guide for students includes enrichment activities and resources for our animals. Each project directly supports the health and welfare of the pets at AWS, bringing them joy, comfort and enrichment while they wait to be adopted. The listed student projects offer varying levels of difficulty, skill and time commitment. Projects range from constructing a feral cat shelter to making no-bake dog treats and so much more. The best part about these projects – they are fun!
From time to time, we offer demonstrations in our Humane Education Classroom on how to complete some of the projects in the guide. Upcoming demonstrations will be listed below.
