Beagle Rescue

As part of the historic rescue of more than 4,000 beagles from a breeding facility in Virginia, we partnered with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to take custody of 24 beagles from the rescue. In fact, the flight bringing these beagles to Maine was the very last one to leave the facility, and we welcomed them with open arms!

These sweet dogs came from a place where the only life they knew was inside a dark kennel. The conditions were filthy, the beagles were neglected, and their treatment was so inhumane that the facility was ultimately shut down by the federal government. However, once those dogs got off the plane in Portland, their lives changed forever. After going through the intake process and a visit with our veterinary team, each and every beagle in our care left AWS to spend their first night in a real home, thanks to our amazing community of foster families. And now they have all been adopted!

Now that their past is behind them, the most important thing is that these beagles are finally family pets. They get to live a life of beloved companionship where they will be cherished as a member of their family and not as an object for greed. They can live a life where they and their people thrive together. A life of freedom. A life of love.

Thank you for your generosity and for your continued support of the work we do. Together, we can ensure that vulnerable beings like these beagles can live to know that someone cares. Help us continue to be a saving light for them when they’re at their darkest. Your gift of any amount will make that light brighter and ensure a happy future for all animals in need.
