Joy & Comfort through Pets

The Visiting Pets team is comprised of dedicated AWS volunteers and their own dogs that come together to provide comfort and joy to those they visit.

Many of the dogs are AWS alumni and all are either registered therapy dogs or Canine Good Citizen certified dogs.

As a team, they visit local residential settings such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, group homes, colleges and universities.

Through our visits, we have seen first-hand the positive interaction that takes place when a visiting dog approaches a resident. Put simply, it’s almost magic. Residents light up. It may be a quick pat, a hug or a few minutes of cuddling while the resident shares stories, memories of dogs who have passed through their lives. There is always an element of joy that we all share in that moment.

Hi! I’m Earl Grey and this is my brother Stormy. We are best buds and are looking for a new home, one that we can live in together! See, we can’t imagine being parted so we’re a “bonded pair,” as our friends here at AWS call us.

We are about 8 months old and are almost identical. People ask – how do you tell us apart? Well, I have a little more white fur on my upper lip than my brother does. And here’s another difference – I’m more outgoing than Stormy. He’s what you might call a wallflower, so I’m usually the first one to venture over to explore a new part of the house or greet a new visitor.

But he doesn’t hide in the corners forever. It takes him a little while to warm up, but then he’s right by my side playing, exploring and bird watching. We are so glad we have each other because boy do we love being together.

You know what else we both love? Our people! We are very loving, loyal cats who like to sandwich our people on the couch for a good snuggle session. And what’s better than the warmth of two cats by your side on a cool fall evening?

We think you’ll enjoy having us in your home – we’re easy going, we’re fun, we’re playful, we love each other, and we’ll love you too!

Adopt me and Stormy today! ➡ https://animalwelfaresociety.org/animal/earl-20209/

As mentioned last week, having a pre-made emergency kit for your pet is crucial to keeping them safe should something happen. This kit should be kept up to date, refreshed, and easily accessible to grab or give to someone.

Necessary items for your pet's emergency kit should include:

✔ Food & Water
✔ Medications and Prescriptions
✔ A Crate or Carrying Bag
✔ Copies of Vaccinations or Medical Records
✔ An Animal First Aid Kit
✔ Backup leashes and Collars with ID Tags
✔ Recent Photo(s) of Your Pet
✔ Grooming Supplies (brushes, nail trimmers, wipes, etc.)
✔ Familiar Toys, Treats, Bedding, and Other Items
✔ Food and Water Bowls
✔ Poop Bags, Cat Litter, Shavings, Puppy Pads, etc.
