Dogs & Puppies
Thank you for choosing Animal Welfare Society as a place to adopt a pet!
We regularly have adolescent and adult dogs for adoption. When we have puppies for adoption, you can find them on this page. Remember that puppies tend to be adopted very quickly, so if you do not see any, please check back again soon.
We look forward to helping to match you with your new best friend and supporting you throughout the adoption process. AWS regularly cares for and houses dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and small animals. The Adoption Center is open Tuesday – Sunday from 10am – 12:30pm and 1:30pm – 4pm, with the last adoption meet at 3:30pm. (Closed Mondays for staff training and extra animal enrichment). For most pets, adopters can drop-in during our open hours, without needing to schedule an appointment or fill out any paperwork in advance. For pets in foster care (as indicated on their profile), please call to schedule an appointment to meet the pet at AWS.
All adoptions are on a first come, first served basis. These adoption pages are REAL TIME, so as soon as a dog or puppy adoption takes place, the pet “disappears” from the website.
To adopt, please stop by the Adoption Center during our open hours: Tuesday – Sunday from 10am – 12:30pm and 1:30pm – 4pm, with the last adoption meet or scheduled appointment at 3:30pm. If the pet is listed as being in foster care, please call first. To learn more about what to expect when adopting from AWS and to view our FAQs, please visit our adoption process page.

Angus now Maverick
We got Angus, now Maverick from AWS! When we got him he was a wild, anxious 10 month old. We quickly adapted to his energy levels and implemented some one-on-one training to reduce his anxiety. He now thrives, trail runs with me, has some pup best friends, and rules the house! I couldn’t imagine not finding him that day. ❤️

Gracie
I had just moved into a new home in Wells. It was getting deep into the Fall and felt like it was time to fill the home with another heartbeat/pulse. I had a senior female dog for 16+ years that I had adopted (she lived to be 18+) and loved the temperament of the older females. In November 2022, I took a peek at AWS website and saw that Gracie was available and looking for her retirement home. I said that is likely the most perfect fit. I met her and she came right up to me, so we bonded right away. …

Six now Mazzy Star
My husband and I are true animal lovers and have always talked about getting a dog when our living arrangements allowed. As soon as we moved from an apartment to a rented home that allowed and welcomed dogs, we knew that it was the perfect time to welcome another fur baby into our lives. After a lot of research, vetting and wandering the internet, a cute 72-pound pitbull-boxer mix named “Six” immediately caught our eye on the AWS website. After looking at her for over a week (and constantly refreshing the web page to make sure she was still available)…
