Pharmacy Services

In addition to our in-house, onsite pharmacy, AWS’ Community Veterinary Clinic offers a comprehensive online pharmacy to provide prescription medications, preventatives, food and supplies to our patients.

As part of the comprehensive care we offer our feline and canine patients, we offer several ways for our clients to obtain and refill their pets’ prescriptions, including medication and prescription food:

  • In-house pharmacy

In-house, we can dispense prescription medications and preventatives that are most needed for our patients. If we do not have what you are looking for onsite, we can direct you online. The online pharmacy, operated by VetsFirstChoice, is stocked with a full range of needed items, including preventatives, medications, supplements, training and behavior aids and medical supplies. Prescription pet food is also offered online. Additionally, the online pharmacy offers free shipping for orders over $49. Deliveries come right to your door. It also offers discounts on products through bundle and save deals. Visit the online pharmacy today!

Please note, as of May 10, 2024, we are no longer able to accept faxed or emailed prescription refill requests from online pharmacies other than VetsFirstChoice. If a client would like to utilize another online pharmacy, we will provide a written prescription that the client can then submit themselves. Clients must pick up the written prescription in person at AWS’ Clinic.

Why are we making this change regarding online pharmacies?

We have have experienced difficulties with certain online pharmacies that we do not partner with including:

  • Dispensing incorrect dosages or directions
  • Dispensing medications without a valid prescription
  • Approving or denying prescription products without cause
  • Inconsistent handling of refill requests, often leading to longer wait times for needed medication.

We are also concerned with our inability to ascertain the quality and efficacy of medications and prescription products obtained from certain online pharmacies. This is because some of them do not purchase their medication directly from the manufacturer, using third parties instead. In these cases, there is no way to know how the medications were made or stored, or that they are safe to use. The FDA offers more information on the risks associated with unknown online pharmacies, and how to ensure a pharmacy’s legitimacy and a medication’s safety.

Why do we use VetsFirstChoice as our online pharmacy?

Maine-based VetsFirstChoice is the preferred online pharmaceutical resource of many veterinary practices, including AWS’ Community Veterinary Clinic. They work directly with manufacturers and product suppliers to provide safe and effective medications and prescription products. We have a strong partnership with them and appreciate the ease and swiftness they offer when processing prescriptions. Clients can request prescription refills directly through the online portal and do not need to come by the Clinic for a written prescription.

If you have any questions regarding our pharmaceutical or prescription services, particularly this change in refill policy for online pharmacies, please reach out to our Clinic Manager via email or by telephone at (207) 985-3244 ext 117.

Dogs are known for their loyalty, and cats for their companionship, but not many know of how fun, loving, and unique a guinea pig can be, like our friend 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗸 here. So, to celebrate our many cute cavies and to help these furry friends get adopted, we’re here to shed some light on why guinea pigs make the perfect pets!

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲.
Guinea pigs come in many shapes, sizes, and colors, and each pig has their own personality and preferences. Some pigs have long, silky hair while others have short, coarse hair. Some pigs are all black while others can be calico or brindle. There are even guinea pigs who are born naturally bald! And like all animals, pigs have different personalities. Some are more shy and introverted, while others are more outgoing and energetic. No matter what, though, you can bet your cavie will be a loyal and loving companion!
