Pharmacy Services

In addition to our in-house, onsite pharmacy, AWS’ Community Veterinary Clinic offers a comprehensive online pharmacy to provide prescription medications, preventatives, food and supplies to our patients.

As part of the comprehensive care we offer our feline and canine patients, we offer several ways for our clients to obtain and refill their pets’ prescriptions, including medication and prescription food:

  • In-house pharmacy

In-house, we can dispense prescription medications and preventatives that are most needed for our patients. If we do not have what you are looking for onsite, we can direct you online. The online pharmacy, operated by VetsFirstChoice, is stocked with a full range of needed items, including preventatives, medications, supplements, training and behavior aids and medical supplies. Prescription pet food is also offered online. Additionally, the online pharmacy offers free shipping for orders over $49. Deliveries come right to your door. It also offers discounts on products through bundle and save deals. Visit the online pharmacy today!

Please note, as of May 10, 2024, we are no longer able to accept faxed or emailed prescription refill requests from online pharmacies other than VetsFirstChoice. If a client would like to utilize another online pharmacy, we will provide a written prescription that the client can then submit themselves. Clients must pick up the written prescription in person at AWS’ Clinic.

Why are we making this change regarding online pharmacies?

We have have experienced difficulties with certain online pharmacies that we do not partner with including:

  • Dispensing incorrect dosages or directions
  • Dispensing medications without a valid prescription
  • Approving or denying prescription products without cause
  • Inconsistent handling of refill requests, often leading to longer wait times for needed medication.

We are also concerned with our inability to ascertain the quality and efficacy of medications and prescription products obtained from certain online pharmacies. This is because some of them do not purchase their medication directly from the manufacturer, using third parties instead. In these cases, there is no way to know how the medications were made or stored, or that they are safe to use. The FDA offers more information on the risks associated with unknown online pharmacies, and how to ensure a pharmacy’s legitimacy and a medication’s safety.

Why do we use VetsFirstChoice as our online pharmacy?

Maine-based VetsFirstChoice is the preferred online pharmaceutical resource of many veterinary practices, including AWS’ Community Veterinary Clinic. They work directly with manufacturers and product suppliers to provide safe and effective medications and prescription products. We have a strong partnership with them and appreciate the ease and swiftness they offer when processing prescriptions. Clients can request prescription refills directly through the online portal and do not need to come by the Clinic for a written prescription.

If you have any questions regarding our pharmaceutical or prescription services, particularly this change in refill policy for online pharmacies, please reach out to our Clinic Manager via email or by telephone at (207) 985-3244 ext 117.

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲! As a reminder, AWS' Adoption Center and Veterinary Clinic are closed today. Our staff and volunteers will be on hand to care for the animals, but we will not be manning phones or checking emails. We hope you and your canine friend can get out and enjoy the holiday, no matter the weather!

Remember, it’s never a good idea to leave your pets alone in a locked car, even for only a short time. The guide below shows just how quickly the inside of a car can get dangerously hot, even in mild temperatures like today. That means that even “just for a minute” can be long enough to have devastating effects for your pet. In most cases, it’s best to just leave Fido at home rather than risk their health and safety. Let’s keep summertime safe and fun for all!
We have a Happy Homes story about a lovely little cat named Flora who reminds us that even the shy, scared, or timid pets deserve a chance at a loving home. More often than not, once an animal gets adopted, they blossom into a truly outgoing and friendly companion who just needed a home environment to shine! Here's what Flora's parents have to say about her!

"Flora joined our family about two years ago, and has brought immense joy, comfort, and affection to us since then. The day that I came into to AWS, the member I met with mentioned that this blue-eyed beauty was very, very shy. Nobody other than those caring for her had any luck getting her to trust. With another shy kitty at home, I knew to enter the room cautiously. I remember that Flora was curled up in a corner under a cat tree. I quietly sat on the floor just to get a good look at her. She perked her head up, crawled over, and promptly laid down in my lap. If I hadn’t already had my heart set on her, that would’ve sealed the deal right then and there!
Now, this kitty is THE definition of a cuddle bug. She sleeps in her humans bed each night, purrs louder than any kitty I’ve ever known, and demands attention vocally if it isn’t given in a time deemed appropriate to her. She has two other kitty friends, along with her sister that she loves to play with, and she spends her days either lounging in the sun, or curled up right next to her people. Thank you AWS, for everything you do!"
