Our next Animal Care Intensive takes place over February School Vacation and focuses on Veterinary Medicine. High school students (in grades 9-12) with an interest in veterinary sciences or a strong desire to pursue a career in veterinary medicine are encouraged to apply.

Students will gain hands-on experience in the vast field of veterinary sciences by working directly with the following professionals and experts:

  • -Small and Companion Animal Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians
  • -Engineers and Veterinary Lab Technicians
  • -Large Animal and Equine Veterinarians
  • -Exotic Veterinarians and Experts

We have taken great care to plan this series of workshops to expose students to the many facets of the veterinary medicine field, where they will observe and interact with specialists, bench scientists and veterinary professionals.

Students will have hands-on time with animals at Animal Welfare Society’s animal shelter and veterinary clinic. Additionally, field trips (with provided transportation) take students to IDEXX, Maine Society for the Protection of Animals (equine facility), and Southern Maine Hospital for Small Mammals.
