February After School Club

February After School Club is for students in grades 2-5. It begins on Thursday, February 1 and runs every following Thursday until February 29, 2024.

During Club meetings, led by our Youth Programs coordinator, students will dive deeper into animal care by occasionally volunteering at the Adoption Center, making crafts, playing games, and generally decompressing from the day. Students will also be able to hang out with some of our Youth Programs pets and have a tour of our Adoption Center!

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰!
Volunteer to be a morning small animal habitat cleaner! Volunteers keep AWS’ small animal areas clean and comfortable. Our small animal population changes regularly and can include birds of various sizes, mice, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits and occasionally exotic pets (reptiles). Daily tasks include cleaning habitats or cages, feeding, and replacing bedding and toys.

Specific Qualifications and Skills:
· Must be able to lift, squat, bend, and stand for prolonged periods of time
· Must be able to climb up and down a stool
· Must be comfortable around a variety of animals
· Special training is provided before your first shift so that proper sanitation protocols are followed.

Schedule: Volunteer shift begins at 8:30am and lasts until the kennel cleaning is done - approx. 2 hrs. Weekly commitment needed.
Open shifts: Wednesdays (1 volunteer needed), Fridays (1 volunteer needed), & Saturdays (1 volunteer needed).

Volunteer to be a morning cat room cleaner! Volunteers keep AWS’ cat rooms clean and comfortable. Daily tasks include emptying litter boxes, scrubbing cat cages, and providing new bedding and toys.

Specific Qualifications and Skills:
• Special training is provided before your first shift so that proper sanitation protocols are followed.
• Must be comfortable climbing a step ladder and lifting lightweight items (such as litter boxes).
• Must be comfortable around cats

Volunteer shift begins at 8:30am and lasts until the cat cages and rooms are clean – approx. 2 hrs. Weekly commitment needed.
Open shifts: Mondays (1 volunteer needed), Thursdays (2 volunteers needed), Saturday (1 volunteer needed)

National Teacher Appreciation Day means observing, celebrating and, of course, appreciating the many teachers and educators who make a difference in the lives of children and their families. Here at AWS, we have Youth Programs Coordinator, Miss Amanda!

Whether it`s carting a whole van of books and puppets to a Furry Tales event, setting up comfortable rooms with pets for children to read to during Rescue Readers, sparking imagination and adventure during Summer Camp, or educating students on the health, wellbeing, and empathy of animals, Miss Amanda gives her best every day! · Must be able to lift, bend, and be on your feet for prolonged periods of time.
