Open to students in grades 1-8. Rescue Readers brings together elementary/middle school students and resident or therapy pets for a half hour of literary-based confidence building! Reading aloud forms a special bond between student and pet, provides enrichment and positive socialization for the animal, and boosts confidence in children.
Yesterday was the last day of school for 7th graders at the Middle School of the Kennebunks, and per their annual tradition they visited AWS! Art students at the school make dog and cat toys for us every year and then celebrate by hand delivering the donations right to our door. They then take a tour of our facility and visit with the pets they helped. We love community traditions like this! Happy summer!
𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆! This week, we want to thank Rico, who is currently fostering adoptable dog Elmer. As you can see, Elmer and Rico are an amazing pair who love each other’s company. It’s always heartwarming when a foster and their pet bond. However, it’s even more amazing when that pet and human become best friends!
