The training with Melissa was so incredibly helpful and informative for me. She was able to identify, that in addition to hearing loss, he is also experiencing a reduction in peripheral vision – which appears to be causing additional stress for him.
She was able to demonstrate several techniques and protocols for working/training with Archie as well as guidelines for not putting him in situations where he gets startled and could lead to a fearful snap. Plus the document she sent outlining the summary of her observations, training techniques, tools and tips is so helpful and will allow me to refer back to it as needed. At her suggestion, I ordered a vest for him that will allow others to know he has hearing and sight limitations. – this will be great for him and for me when we are out for walks.
Melissa's training and observations of him has opened up ways for him to live a fuller life and one where he can feel safe even with limited hearing and sight. This allows me to do that as well with him now that I understand more of his limitations. Melissa's experience and gentle/informative training approach to Archie (and for me) was really terrific. I could not be more pleased or grateful for AWS and Melissa’s training with Archie.
Archie is doing very well as we both adjust to his limitations with hearing and sight. He seems calmer as I make sure his surroundings are secure for him and he looks pretty snappy in his new vest. Thank you so much!
