13 1/2 years ago, I lost a beloved AWS alum Cairn Terrier to cancer. When I saw a van-load of terrier mutts on the AWS adoption site I needed to “just look”. I could barely stop crying as I explained to the front desk staff how amazing my adopted Cairn had been. They pointed me to a recent intake, and I knew he was mine — BUT a different shy little mutt spoke to my heart. I’m certain he knew he would be my choice long before I did. So now, over 13 years later, he’s been a constant companion- so tuned in, so easily trained, kind … AND he grew up to become the most beautiful dog, loved by an entire community where we live. I hope Puck lives a few more years. (He’s in amazing shape! He gets the very best care, too.) I’m counting on AWS to somehow fill my heart again after he goes. I have to trust the very best dogs find me, as they always have.
