Our training is accessible to dog families, no matter their experience, background or availability. From convenient group classes to varied class settings, from empathetic and experienced trainers to relationship-building methodology, dogs and their families thrive, bond and grow at AWS.

Training at AWS is more than just teaching sit, stay and come. Learn why you and your dog will benefit from our specialized and unique training programs and group classes!

Mission-Based Program

  • Every class you take supports AWS’ mission, which is to offer a safety net for homeless pets and provide resources to pets and pet families in our community.
  • As part of an organization with an on-site animal shelter, our distinctive working environment positively shapes our training approach, rooting it in empathy and patience.
  • As a non-profit, we are able to offer training to pet families who might not otherwise have access to professional guidance.
  • With a full-service veterinary clinic on site, we closely collaborate with our veterinarians to ensure training is safe, healthy, and suited to dogs’ needs.

Inclusivity & Connection

  • We offer a variety of programs that are designed for dogs of all breeds, ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. There is, in fact, a place for every dog at AWS.
  • As locals, who live right in the community where we teach, our trainers are familiar with the particular needs, challenges and environments of dogs and families in our area.

Experienced Instructors

  • Our classes are led by certified and professionally trained instructors with decades of experience and a wealth of practical knowledge.
  • Our training team is composed of instructors with varying interests and unique specialties, creating a well-rounded, effective program for every dog.
  • Our trainers truly love what they do and love dogs! This enthusiasm and passion is clear in every lesson and in every interaction we have with our clients and their dogs.

Methodology

  • Classes focus on relationship-based training. This method strengthens communication between pet and handler and goes beyond just teaching cues (commands).
  • We use science-based, positive reinforcement methods focused on trust, clarity, and lasting results.
  • Furthermore, we treat every dog and handler as an individual. We address each dog’s unique behavior, emotions, and relationships, with the goal of achievving long-term success.

Facilities & Accessibility

  • We offer small classes (no more than 4-6 dog/handler teams) which mean more hands-on coaching during each session.
  • AWS’ campus provides the ideal training environment no matter the season. Our large indoor classroom is used year-round. Plus, the outdoor pens, walking trails and grounds offer a variety of options for outdoor learning.
  • Our group classes are convenient – we offer daytime, evening and weekend classes, just right for your schedule.
