Hi everyone, it’s Jake here! It’s so great to meet you today! For starters, here are my “stats.” Im a one-year-old, very lovable, very handsome brown and black male cat.
I am excited to be AWS’ Pet of the Week because that means I get to tell you all about me! And I’m pretty great, if I do say so myself!!
Are you ready to learn all about me? Keep scrolling, my friends!

I’m a Great Friend!
I am friends with everyone. I’ll come right out and say it! I’ve never met a stranger and it’s just great when I have people to meet! I’m the first to come to the door when you walk past, the first to say hello in the morning and the first to sit at your side on the couch. I just love to say hello ….. And you know why! Because Jake is GREAT!
Affection is Great!
I love when people pet me, especially under my chin or on my back. It’s a great feeling and I just love snuggling while being petted.. I have the perfect coat for it too – it’s so soft and fine!! As soon as you start petting me, you’ll hear my happy motor running. Being with my people brings me so much peace and joy. And I know it will for you too! Isn’t that the greatest?!?!
I’m Your One Great Love!
Due to some circumstances out of my control, I must ask to be the only cat in my new home. That’s for the best for everyone! You see, I have feline leukemia (FeLV). FeLV is a disease that is easily transmitted from cat to cat through saliva (like grooming each other or sharing a water dish). So I want to make sure I don’t pass it along to any other cats, so you can call me your one great love, your finest feline friend, your number one bestie!
What is FeLV?
Now, you might have some questions about my condition. That’s great because the more you know, the more you can help me stay happy and healthy! I’ll give you the bullet points about FeLV a sec, but I’ll start off by saying that my awesome friends at AWS, including the veterinarians who diagnosed me, are happy to share everything they know about FeLV and how it affects me specifically. Talking about FeLV will be an important part of your adoption appointment. I promise I’ll be patiently waiting while you get all the info you need, and then we can start our great new life together!
- FeLV is contagious amongst cats but I cannot spread my disease to dogs or humans.
- I should be an indoor cat only so I don’t accidentally pass it along to a cat I meet outside.
- FeLV can cause cats to have weak immune systems, so my new people should keep an eye on me if I seem like I have a cold or infection, we’d best go right to the vet.
- I have the regressive form of FeLV, so that means I’ll need another test in 3-6 months to see how/if the disease has progressed.
- I am not in any pain and my quality of life is that of any other cat. While having FeLV isn’t great, cats like me can and do live long, healthy, happy lives with attentive people and regular vet visits.

So there you have it! Jake the great in a nutshell! If you want to have snuggles, cuddles and love in your life and you don’t have any feline friends at home, maybe I’m the one for you! Call or stop by AWS to meet me!
