Sponsorship Enrollment

AWS’ brand-new foster a flower bed program is seeking sponsorships from area businesses and corporations. This is a great way to spend time outside while helping to beautify our property. In fact, AWS’ gardens are seen by thousands of visitors every year, including the several thousand who attend our Woofstock Festival in July.

Sponsors receive great perks including signage at their beds and the opportunity to offer staff members a day of service to prep the beds for the season.

As a sponsor, you will

  • Receive recognition through branded signage at your bed along with name and logo on this page, as well as in social media shout outs
  • Design the garden bed, including selecting and placing flowers and plants (within guidelines)
  • Have the opportunity (and right of first refusal) to foster the bed for the summer*

*Sponsors have the option to continue to “foster the bed” for the season by committing to weekly care (watering, weeding, trimming, planting, etc). If not, AWS will find other volunteers to maintain the bed over the summer, after initial cleanup/planting.

Fostering a flower bed is without a doubt a great opportunity for corporate days of service, families or other nature-inclined groups.

Plant Information

The ASPCA’s poison control website offers a comprehensive listing of Toxic and Non-Toxic Plants. For instance, petunias, a common annual found in flower gardens in Maine, are non-toxic. You may reference this guide (or likewise ask AWS staff members) to know what is safe to plant at AWS.

Guidelines
  • Garden bed care is a scheduled activity to be arranged with the Community Engagement Manager.
  • During your initial visit, you will sign waivers and receive a safety overview and instructions on where to find supplies such as water.
  • Tools and supplies are available here at AWS, but please bring along your favorite gardening tools. No power tools, please.
  • Pet-safe plants only. No vegetables.
  • Dogs are frequently outdoors on walks. For safety reasons, please do not approach or pet a dog without asking their handler first.
  • AWS has a feral/community cat colony. Please do not be alarmed if you see outdoor cats. Feral cats are generally wary of people, so they are unlikely to be in your way.
