Birds & Small Animals
Thank you for choosing Animal Welfare Society to adopt a pet!
We regularly have birds and small mammals for adoption, such as guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, mice, rats, and parakeets. And on occasion, we have reptiles or other kinds of birds. We collectively call these types of pets “small animals” though they can vary in size from a tiny mouse to a large Macaw. The population of small animals is constantly changing, so if you’re looking for one of these pets, check back frequently.
We look forward to helping you find your new best friend and supporting you throughout the adoption process. AWS regularly cares for dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and other small animals.
Adoption Center Hours
Tuesday–Sunday
10 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
1:30–4 p.m.
Last adoption meet begins at 3:30 p.m.
Closed Mondays for staff training and extra animal enrichment.
Planning Your Visit
For most pets, no appointment is needed. Stop by during open hours to meet available pets. You do not need to complete paperwork in advance.
Meeting a Pet in Foster Care?
Pets currently in foster care will be noted on their profile. Please call us to schedule an appointment to meet them at AWS.
All adoptions are on a first come, first served basis. These adoption pages are REAL TIME, so as soon as a dog or puppy adoption takes place, the pet “disappears” from the website.
Complete Dog/Puppy Application Online
Save time by completing your adoption application online before you visit. Applications are also available at the Adoption Center, but we encourage you to apply online whenever possible.
To adopt, please stop by the Adoption Center during our open hours: Tuesday – Sunday from 10am – 12:30pm and 1:30pm – 4pm, with the last adoption meet or scheduled appointment at 3:30pm. Butterfly
When I first entered the shelter to adopt a cockatiel I could hear her squacking really loud and constant! Wondering if this was a wise decision, I brought her into the house, put her on her cage (free bird) complete silence!!!She greets me upon coming home, and absolutely LOVES my 16 year old chihuahua!!! She has got such personality and is quite comical. Best decision ever!!!

Fred, Emile and Remi
I got the three boys because they are bonded together and I didn’t want to separate them. So I took them all home. They are doing so good and they are very sweet one fell asleep while I was holding him. I couldn’t be happier with them and I let them free range in the apartment. Only put them in the cage when I’m sleeping and going to work.

Moose & Squirrel
I got Moose & Squirrel in August of 2025. Moose is a snuggle bug, who loves head scratches and attention. Squirrel loves to be held and pet. They both are doing so well! They love to popcorn and they are really spoiled with toys, hay, and veggies.
