Kindness to Animals Week: Feb 16 – 19, 2021

Four of Maine’s premier animal non-profits are teaming up to present a special series of educational webinars on animal wellness during February School Vacation week.

Free for the 1 event

Each day will feature a forty-minute-long webinar from one of the participating non-profits, focusing on the animal population its mission serves and how those animals survive – and thrive –  in the wintertime.

During the interactive webinars, students will be encouraged to ask questions, explore the animals’ world virtually and engage their feelings of empathy and compassion. Students will leave the webinars knowing how they can help animals of all kinds this winter. These winter wellness webinars are open to children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The daily webinars will take place via the meeting app Zoom. Registrants will receive the Zoom credentials, which will be good for one or all of the presentations. Students are welcome to attend one, two, three or all four, based on their interests. Kindness to Animal Week webinars are presented free of charge. Donations to the participating non-profits are welcome. Donations support each non-profit’s operations and daily animal care needs.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN. PLEASE RSVP BELOW.

Winter Wellness Webinar Schedule

Tuesday, February 16th @ 10 am: Animal Welfare Society: Humane Educator Miss Brie will chat about community cats, also known as feral cats.  What is the difference between stray cats, outdoor cats and community cats? We learn ways to tell which type of cat needs our help and which type of cat is already living its best life especially in the wintertime.

Wednesday, February 17th @ 10 am: Center for Wildlife: Focusing on animals that live in Maine, Center for Wildlife’s educators will provide an introduction to the many different wild animals we care for in our medical clinic and discuss how we can all support our wild neighbors!

Thursday, February 18th @ 10 am: MSSPA: Community Programs Manager Robert Sheckler will introduce students to the wonderful world of horses, focusing on how horses keep themselves warm and happy during the cold Maine winters and the important ways humans care for horses all winter long.

Friday, February 19th @ 10 am: Marine Mammals of Maine: This time of year, Marine Mammals of Maine responds to and cares for two species of seal that can only be found in Maine’s waters in the winter. We’ll learn what makes these snow-loving marine mammals unique and how we – and you – can help them!
