Six now Mazzy Star

My husband and I are true animal lovers and have always talked about getting a dog when our living arrangements allowed.

As soon as we moved from an apartment to a rented home that allowed and welcomed dogs, we knew that it was the perfect time to welcome another fur baby into our lives.

After a lot of research, vetting and wandering the internet, a cute 72-pound pitbull-boxer mix named “Six” immediately caught our eye on the AWS website.

After looking at her for over a week (and constantly refreshing the web page to make sure she was still available) we decided to make the trip to Kennebunk to meet this sweet girl in person.

She was a bit timid at first, likely due to my husband’s big and tall stature, but after a nice walk around the facility (and her favorite treat – a cheese stick!) she warmed right up to us.

It didn’t take much to decide that she was “ours” and she has warmed right up at home – now affectionately named “Mazzy”, she loves cuddles on the couch and the bed, long walks in the woods and trails in our back yard, endless treats and just about any toy that she can chew.

Although they usually “socially distance” by choice and enjoy each other’s company from afar, she has done really well with our two indoor cats overall and it’s always a hoot seeing the endless “butt wiggles” and excitement when my husband and I walk through the door.

Mazzy is both house and crate trained – we never come home to any messes and there’s nothing she enjoys more than the nice, cold floor and the A/C on the hot, summer days.

We are still working on her interactions with other dogs and “strangers” that enter our home but know that she will get there with a little bit of training, along with some love and encouragement.

We are still working on the perfect outdoor setup to give our “Mazzy Girl” that much more freedom to run, roam and play, but she is thoroughly enjoying her new home, and we are excited to grow with her for years to come.
