Why We Appreciation Our Veterinary Technicians!

This week is National Veterinary Technicians Week.

Started by the American Veterinary Medical Association in 1993, National Vet Tech Week commemorates the vital and professional role veterinary technicians play in diagnosing, treating and caring for animals.

It’s also a week to celebrate our own veterinary technicians and assistants! Just like a hospital with its nurses, AWS’ Community Veterinary Clinic couldn’t operate without these hard-working professionals. So we asked our veterinarians what they appreciate most about the veterinary technicians and assistants they work with every day.

“I’d be lost without our LVTs and support staff. I think of myself as a pilot and the LVTs as air traffic controllers. Without their direction and expertise, I would be useless, flying around in circles.”

They are the backbone of the clinic, and I’m so grateful for everything they do. Calming a nervous patient, drawing blood, monitoring anesthesia, filling medications, or cleaning up all the messes that come with animals—they do it all.”

“Veterinary technicians and assistants are the heart of the clinic. Their skills, compassion, and dedication make it possible for us to provide great care to every patient. Whether it’s comforting a nervous patient, assisting in appointments and surgery, or answering questions with patience and kindness, they are at the heart of everything we do.”

  • They wear the hats of a nurse, lab tech, pharmacy tech, and janitor, often all in one day. And they do it with heart.”
  • Our work would not be possible without their expertise and unwavering commitment. I am deeply grateful for all of their hard work. This work often happens behind the scenes, but it makes all the difference in the lives of our patients and clients.”
  • From running and maintaining our medical equipment, to keeping us on task through the day, to monitoring patients under anesthesia, to keeping our space clean and safe—they literally do everything and often do it simultaneously!”

“I couldn’t do my job without my veterinary technicians. First of all, they are incredibly smart, endlessly brave, and take on some of the toughest parts of veterinary medicine. Even more, they do their work with compassion and skill.”

“When an unusually cute patient comes in, our technicians bring it through the clinic to show everyone how cute it is! It makes my day to see them so passionate about their patients.”

“They are our eyes and ears, and for that reason, we trust them 100% to keep everyone safe.”

Next time you’re at the vet, thank your pet’s veterinary technicians for all they do.

Veterinary medicine wouldn’t exist without their dedication, professionalism, technical expertise and passion for animals!

Thank you vet techs! WE LOVE YOU!
