We have a unique Happy Homes story for you today about an adorable little hamster named Einstein! Sometimes adoptees start out as fosters, and that`s okay! Not all foster pets are meant to go up for adoption. Sometimes they find their happy home with the person who chose to foster them all along.

While the term `foster fail` is endearing and we love the meaning behind it, we prefer to refer to these as foster wins! Just because you started out as a foster doesn`t mean you`ve failed if you decide to adopt. Even if you can no longer foster after the adoption, you`ve still changed the life of a pet for the better. It`s not a foster fail, it`s a forever home! ❤

Have you ever wanted to foster a pet before? You might be surprised to learn that there are many forms of fostering! Check out our list below and apply to be a foster for us online today!
𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀
Although pets at AWS are well taken care of, it’s just not the same as being in a home-like setting. That’s where fosters come in! Foster families house and care for pets that are already up for adoption, and provide a loving and temporary home while the pet waits for their permanent one!
𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴
Not all the animals who come through AWS go up for adoption. In certain scenarios, we provide temporary boarding services for pet families who are in crisis. All pets are happier away from the hustle and bustle of shelter life, and these pets are no exception! Therefore, fosters come in to help care for these pets while they wait to be reunited with their families. It truly takes a village!
𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆
Being a new or expecting mother is hard, even for our animal companions! Foster families take in pregnant pets and support them through their maternity stay. Mom and her new arrivals often require a quiet, calm, and supportive environment to develop and grow. Shelters like AWS are often far too loud and busy for that, so our fosters are key in helping our pregnant or nursing residents!
𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹
Every pet is different, and sometimes an animal comes to us with unique medical needs. Whether it’s a broken leg, an infection, or even a long-term disability, a sick or injured animal will usually need a foster home. This is so they can heal away from the hustle and bustle of shelter life, and then be healthy and socialized enough to go up for adoption!
𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹
AWS works with rescue groups to bring in pets from shelters in other states. When these animals are transported over state lines, they require a 2-5 day quarantine period. This is where the transport fosters come in! Foster families will take in these new pets for a short period of time until the quarantine period is over and they can go up for adoption.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄?
Rabbits are smart and can learn to be litter-box trained just like a cat! As demonstrated by our available bunny 𝗛𝗲𝗻𝗿𝘆 here, rabbits usually pick a spot or two around their enclosure to eliminate. If you place a litter-box there with some enticing hay or pellets, the rabbit is likely to jump in and learn to go. Rabbits like to be clean and are constantly self-grooming, so using a box comes naturally to them!
We`re celebrating Rabbit Awareness Week all week long! Check out our available bunnies, like 𝗛𝗲𝗻𝗿𝘆, and consider Adopting or Fostering for us to make room for more rabbits looking for homes. We couldn`t do it without you!

Rabbits are social animals that thrive on companionship. Because they instinctively enjoy living in groups or in pairs, rabbits form strong bonds with their humans and genuinely enjoy being around them. When you gain a rabbits trust, like 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲, they don`t even mind being picked up or handled. Like a dog or cat, rabbits are loyal, loving, and snuggly companions!
