Volunteer at AWS with your troop or group

Our Youth Program Coordinator organizes and leads specialized volunteer sessions for Troops and Student Groups. The session begins with an instructional period in the Humane Education Classroom in the Boston House (the white house at the end of Holland Road) that focuses on a specific animal population, task, or AWS program. Then students participate in volunteer work specific to that topic. The instructional period leading into the volunteer session adds value to the work being done. By knowing why specific tasks need to be done, how the tasks are applied, and what animal population is being served, students have a greater appreciation for and feel more fulfilled by their volunteer work and see first hand how they make a difference.

We look forward to working with you to create a meaningful, fulfilling and useful experience for your students!

Working with both children and pets takes a special and compassionate person, and that’s exactly how we would describe our Youth Programs volunteers! Alongside our Youth Programs Coordinator, volunteers help children visiting with AWS both inside and outside the classroom with fun games, tasks, education and, of course, animals. With programs like Rescue Readers, Furry Tales, and After School Club, there’s a lot to do around here regarding humane education! We’re grateful for the hard work and dedication of our Youth Programs volunteers who assist in teaching compassion, kindness, and care for all creatures!
