Our mission
Animal Welfare Society exists to serve as the safety net for lost and homeless pets and to provide access to affordable services and resources necessary for long term well-being, so pets and their families stay together and thrive.
In 2025, AWS has again achieved the Platinum Seal of Transparency, as designated by Candid (formerly Guidestar), a nonprofit information service. To reach the Platinum level – the highest offered by Candid – AWS has added extensive information to its Nonprofit Profile. This includes:
- basic contact and organizational information
- in-depth financial information
- qualitative information about goals, strategies, and capabilities
- quantitative information about results and progress toward its mission
By taking the time to provide this information, AWS has demonstrated its commitment to transparency and to giving donors and funders meaningful data to evaluate nonprofit performance.
AWS is pleased to announce that in 2024, for the 12th consecutive year, it has been awarded the highest ranking (✭✭✭✭) by CharityNavigator. The rating is based on four key areas called “beacons”: Accountability & Finance, Leadership & Adaptability, Culture & Community, and Impact & Results. Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates AWS demonstrates strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency. AWS does this while executing its mission with responsible governance and commitment to best practices.
