For this Foster Friday, we’re highlighting the incredible super team of dog dater’s Francesca and Conor! You may recognize their photos from our social media or animal profiles, because these two not only take AWS dogs on incredible dog dates in Southern Maine, but they also take incredible photos of their adventures and share them with us!!
We’re so grateful for all of the time they spend helping the dogs spend time outside of the Adoption Center, as well as helping them find their new homes with all of the amazing photos! Hear from this super team about their experience on dog dates:
What motivates you to be dog daters at AWS?
Conor: It’s so rewarding to see how much of a positive impact it has on the dogs, getting out of the shelter and getting to meet other people. It’s also a treat for us because they are all so sweet and it’s a bonus being able to take pictures that can help potential adopters see themselves out with the dogs having such a good time with them just like we do on the dog dates.
Francesca: Animal rescue has always been such a big part of my life, and when we moved back to the US from the UK, where my full time job was working for an animal charity, I wanted to find new ways to incorporate rescue work into my life here. Dog dates are gaining popularity, but it’s still a unique program and something I feel lucky to be a part of.
What’s your favorite part of dog dates?
Conor: Taking them to the first place on the date, usually Drake’s Island Beach and seeing how happy they are to explore somewhere new.
Francesca: My favorite part of the dog dates is how much joy the dogs get out of them, and in return how much joy they bring to everyone they meet while on the dates. Whether it’s people smiling at them eating their pup cups, to saying hi to them in a dog store or walking down the street and asking about their story, and getting to tell them that they are looking for a home is a real highlight.
What’re your favorite memories or locations for dog dates?
Francesca & Conor: One of our favorite memories was when we took Daisy the bloodhound to the beach and after her walk she just sat in the sand in the sun watching the waves and everyone walking by and she was so content. Similarly bringing Pumpernickel the beagle to the beach when it was covered with snow – the snow didn’t stop him and he loved sniffing and digging for seaweed that was under the snow! We also always love bringing the dogs for pup cups at the Colony Hotel’s cafe (Coveside Market) the staff are always so nice there and love giving the dogs the pup cups. Another memory that springs to mind is after we took Cosmo and Rigs out on their date they got cozy in the back of the car and Cosmo had his head on Rig’s head and fell asleep like that.
Thanking our Dog Date Super Team!
For both Francesa & Conor, animal rescue and welfare is a big part of their lives! They have two adopted pets, a cat and a dog, and have fostered kittens! We are so lucky to have them as regular dog daters, and all of our dogs love going on adventures with this super team! Be sure to check out their incredible dog date photos below!!!
