We’re spotlighting two young dogs with a shared medical need that our clinic cannot provide. Fancee and Poppy aren’t sisters. They’re not bonded. They didn’t even arrive at AWS together.
But these two young dogs have something pretty big in common: they both need hip surgery. We’re counting on our community to help us reach $10,000 for Fancee and Poppy’s surgeries.
Fancee, just over a year old, needs a femoral head ostectomy (FHO) on one hip. Eight-month-old Poppy needs the procedure on both hips.
Hip problems can affect dogs for many reasons, including genetics, development or injury. For Fancee and Poppy, we may never know exactly why they’re facing these challenges so early in life. What we do know is that both have a lot of life ahead of them — and these surgeries can help them live it more comfortably.
And So Begins Give Them A Leg Up
This week, we’re kicking off Give Them a Leg Up, a fundraiser to raise $10,000 to help cover the cost of Fancee and Poppy’s upcoming surgeries. These surgeries require us to bring in a Board Certified Veterinary Surgeon to the AWS Community Veterinary Clinic.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more of Fancee and Poppy’s stories: their time in foster care, preparations for surgery and, eventually, the road to recovery. Along the way, you’ll get to know two very different dogs who happen to be facing a very similar hurdle.
There’s a lot ahead for these two. We hope you’ll follow along — and, if you can, help us reach our $10,000 goal to give them a leg up.
