Two years ago on Valentine’s Day, we created our Dog Date program! The program allows short-term fosters to show our dogs some love away from the Adoption Center. Every dog date is unique to the dog and the dater, but will be full of fun for all! To celebrate the two year anniversary of the program, let’s follow Pumpernickel’s recent dog date adventure!
The Start of Every Dog Date
Once a date has been scheduled, the dog dater comes to the Adoption Center to meet their match before heading off for their adventure! Our Adoption Counselors help coordinate the date based on the dog date profile filled out and what dog would fit best for the dog dater! Some dates are looking for someone to take on an outdoor adventure, while others may go for a leisurely car ride. For Pumpernickel, his first stop on his dog date was the beach!

A Snowy Walk on the Beach

Now that Pumpernickel has his match it’s time to hit the beach! Many dogs like Pumpernickel enjoy the time they spend away from the Adoption Center to have a fun outing in the community. Going on a date also helps dogs such as Pumpernickel potentially run into future adopters as he dawns his stunning “Adopt Me” vest! He sure had a blast enjoying a nice long and snowy walk on the beach.
Next Dog Date Stop: A Nice Treat
After enjoying a long walk it was time for the next stop of Pumpernickel’s dog date adventure: a nice treat! Some dates go for a lunch date and a pup cup, and Pumpernickel couldn’t have been happier to have a yummy treat on his excursion. Our Adoption Counselors work with potential dog daters to find the best time for their schedule. One date could be a short trip to a pet-friendly store, or it could be a fun day-long adventure like Pumpernickel’s!

Exploring the Community

Now that Pumpernickel’s rested up and had a delicious snack, he’s ready to get back outside! So his date continued into Dock Square in Kennebunkport as they roamed the streets and explored the community. For a social dog like Pumpernickel, meeting new people and making friends along the way is a load of fun! Some dogs are active and like to take a hike, while others are couch potatoes and would be happy chilling at a park or at a house.
