Why Mice Make Great Pets

Mice may not commonly be thought of as pets, but they make great ones! They offer an easy pet care experience and could be the perfect addition to your family. We currently have mice waiting to find their new homes!

Mice Are Smart

Mice, similarly, to dogs and cats, can recognize human faces and can identify their owners. That means they will learn to remember and care for you just like their canine and feline counterparts! They can also learn tricks and are motivated by treats. Just like other common pets you may have in your home, mice can learn how to do tricks if you spend time training them!

They Are Loving and Affectionate

Mice enjoy time outside of their enclosure with their owners. They like to be gently cuddled and pet! And there’s not a more perfect time of the year to hang out with your mouse companion in the warmth of the indoors during the holiday season! They enjoy hanging out with you to watch tv or chill on your shoulder around the house!

Mice Don’t Take Up Much Space and Are Clean

Similar to how cats have their litter boxes to use the bathroom, mice will use a designated area in their habitat separate from their feeding and sleeping areas. They also groom themselves regularly, so you won’t have to worry about bathing them. These small animals stay busy and entertained given the appropriate space and activities like a wheel, ramp or a hidey hole.

They Could Be Your New Friend!

Overall, mice would make for great first pets or pets for someone who can’t commit to taking care of a larger pet. They are a cheaper option and require easy care. Adding them to your home could also help kids learn the responsibilities of caring for a pet. These small animals could be the perfect fit for you and your family this holiday season! If you or someone you know are interested in adopting, come by the AWS Adoption Center or call us at (207) 985-3244. We’d encourage adopters to consider adopting same-sex mice in multiples so they can lead happy, social lives together. Fabio is also available to be adopted individually.
