Breakfast with Gerbils
Meet the Breakfast Gerbils
These twelve lil gerbils are available for adoption at AWS. We have 7 females and 5 males. They are paired off in bonded, same-sex duos or trios. Males with males; females with females – so there will be no unintended gerbil pregnancies. There names are favorite – and unique – breakfast combinations. Crepe, Jam and Sausage, Omelette & Fritter, Donut & Muffin, and Toast, Mimosa & Hashbrown. If you love brunch as much as we do, we’re sure you’ll love these gerbils as much as we do too!
What do gerbils eat for breakfast?
Gerbils, like many small rodents, enjoys fresh seeds and grains as their primary diet. Additionally, their diet contains greens such as lettuce and kale. They also like hay.
In fact, they especially enjoy foraging for their food, so it’s good to give them the option to do that in their habitats. While they don’t eat the same breakfast foods we do, they certainly like several meals and snacks each day.

Are gerbils fun?
Yes, they are! Gerbils are funny, smart, and adventurous little creatures who loves to burrow and get into adorable little mischief inside their habitat. They love to play together and have fun with their toys.
They are fun to watch and fun to play with! Gerbils do best with many toys, huts, and tunnels to climb through. Plus, they like time spent with their human companions for socialization and bonding. Rodents like gerbils sometimes get a bad rep but they’re actually quite friendly, clean, and intelligent little animals. They bond to their humans, have tight social circles, and can even learn tricks! Plus, just look at how adorable their little hands are!
In fact, gerbil adopters at AWS receive a coupon for a complimentary wellness exam and nail trim at Southern Maine Hospital for Small Mammals in Kennebunk (must be scheduled within 8 weeks of adoption date). We want to help you help your new furry friend stay happy and healthy!
