Canine Training Resources
As January is Train Your Dog month, we wanted to reintroduce you to our training program and share with you the canine training resources we offer to help dogs and their people bond, communicate and engage with each other.
First and foremost, your participation in our training program supports our mission. As a nonprofit, our mission drives our work. What you may not know is that our mission is twofold. Not only do we provide a safety and security for lost and homeless pets, we provide affordable and accessible resources for pet families in our community so that people and their pets can stay together and thrive. And one of our most important resources available to the public is canine training.
Secondly, our dog trainers are experienced and (certified), just as you’d find at any reputable “obedience school” or dog training facility. In fact, with their hands-on work and support they provide our resident (shelter) dogs, they’ve seen it all! (And know a LOT about dogs of ALL ages, breeds and temperaments).
How about a group class?
- Our group classes are open to all – your dog does not need to be an AWS alum (adopted from here) to take a class. If you’re joining us for an intermediate level course, we do have a prerequisite that your dog has graduated from basic training, but that does not need to be one of our classes.
- Our group classes are progressive, allowing you and your dog to journey together through training and enrichment at AWS.
- Our group classes are convenient. In fact, we offer daytime, evening and weekend classes, just right for your schedule. Check out our current schedule.
When group classes aren’t for you, we offer individualized and specialized training resources too!
Our canine training resources extend to private consultations and one-on-one lessons. This unique offering allows our trainers to work with you directly on your dog’s behavior issues or training goals. Therefore we can specialize your session to exactly what you need! Our private consultations can cover nearly any behavior or training related topic, but here are some of our most common requests.
A leash puller? We can help you enjoy stress-free walks!
Reactive to other dogs? Learn techniques to help your dog stay calm.
Have a new puppy? Get personalized guidance to start out right.
Fearful or anxious dog? Let us help you to boost their confidence.
Scheduling challenges? One-on-one lessons can fit your busy life.
Not sure what canine training resources are best for you and your dog? Pop up with us!
Our pop-up programming allows you and your dog to sharpen your training skills, enjoy enrichment and socialization with other dogs and meet fellow dog-lovers, without having to commit to a 6 week group class or a scheduled private lesson. They also give you a chance to try out something new. Pop in to our Pop-Up programming whenever you’re free.
