What’s New With Youth Programs?

As the school year comes to an end and summertime begins, our Youth Programs gear up for a busy season. There are community events to host, classes to manage and, of course, summer camp will be in full swing. That’s why we wanted to make sure to keep you up to date with our busy schedule! So, what new with AWS Youth Programs? Turns out, a lot!

Animals in the Arts

Our art programs have always combined a love of animals with a love of art. This summer, however, Miss Amanda will host our first ever week-long Animals in the Arts! Brought to you by River Tree Arts, students in grades 6+ can join Miss Amanda and local artists to draw live animals. In this camp, children will focus on core skills of drawing while observing live pets here at AWS. Students will build their drawing skill set from the ground up!

This program runs for five days starting Monday, June 24 – Friday, June 28 from 9am – Noon. 50% of all proceeds come directly to AWS!

Stuffed Animal Adoption

Who doesn’t love stuffed animals?! If you have room in your heart and home for a new stuffie, the Kennebunk Free Library has an event for you and your little one! On Wednesday, June 26 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, stop by the library to pick out a stuffed animal to adopt. There will be many animals to choose from and you will even receive an adoption certificate! Miss Amanda will be on site to help with the adoption process and talk about our organization. Leave the library with everything you need for a summer of fun AND a new friend!

Registration for this event is recommended and greatly appreciated. This program will be held outside of the Children’s Room and on the Library’s front lawn. We hope to see you there!

A New Friend

When asking what’s new with Youth Programs, we of course have to mention our newest classroom assistant! Meet Tater Tot! This pint-sized cutie is Miss Amanda’s resident hamster and he plays an important role within the classroom. Tater Tot teaches children about empathy and kindness for all living things. Kids learn how to handle Tater Tot gently and show respect towards smaller beings. Tater Tot’s greatest lesson is that even if you’re small, you can still make a huge difference!

Welcome Tater Tot to AWS Youth Programs! We know you’ll be a wonderful addition to our resident classroom animals!

Woofstock!

Are you excited for Woofstock? Held annually on the last Saturday in July, Woofstock is AWS’ FREE family-friendly, dog-friendly, beer and food festival. Of course, Miss Amanda will be there manning the Kid’s Zone for our youngest Festival visitors. There is plenty for the kiddos to do at Woofstock! The youth tent offers crafts, games, temporary tattoos and face painting. And don’t miss Spotsy, the giant dog-shaped bounce house!

We hope to see you, the kids, and your family dog at Woofstock!
