Groovy Pet of the Week: Gerald

Hello there, friends. My name is Gerald and I am this week’s Groovy Pet here at AWS! In case you’re just tuning in, us Groovy Pets are given this special title in honor of the upcoming Woofstock festival. Have you heard of it? I’d be surprised if you haven’t! Woofstock is Maine’s only family-friendly, dog-friendly, food and beer festival held right here at AWS. At the time that I’m writing this, it’s little more than 9 days away! Can you believe it?! Now I know what you must be thinking; why has a cat been chosen to promote a dog-friendly festival? Well, as it turns out, it’s because I’m one cool cat!

Cool Cat, Gerald

Woofstock might be for the dogs, but us cats have our place as well. In fact, all pets do! You see, thanks to the title sponsor Rarebreed Veterinary Partners, all sponsorships, fees and donations raised at Woofstock support pet veterinary care here at the Community Veterinary Clinic and throughout the state. So, even though cats aren’t invited to the event, we still benefit from it! And this is important because at AWS, thousands of animals like me are seen by their veterinary staff every year. I know I was checked out upon arriving here! I’ll always be grateful for the help because how else could I go up for adoption and blossom into the cool cat I am today?

But what exactly makes me one cool cat anyway? I’m glad you asked! I consider myself cool because I have overcome adversity. I was originally born in Dallas, Texas and found myself homeless pretty quickly. Luckily I was taken in by a rescue down there before being transported up to Maine and, eventually, AWS. I was originally very scared, nervous, and untrusting of the people here. But with time, patience, and a lot of love, I have really blossomed! I’m currently in foster care and honestly living my best life so far! I get to sunbathe by the door, bird watch out the windows, and cuddle up on lots of warm beds and couches. I’ve come so far! Don’t you think that makes me cool?

Adopt Gerald

I truly am loving my foster life, but it can’t compare to having a loving home of my very own. I dream of one day finding my perfect family who will sweet me off my paws and into their lap. I’ve been a nervous cat since I was born, but I truly feel like I’m coming into my own now. I want to show my family that I can overcome and be the one cool cat they’re looking for! Take a chance on me and adopt me into your home. Woofstock is on Saturday, July 27 and I’d love to be with my new family by then. Sure I can’t go with them to the event, but there will be plenty of fun cat crafts and items for sale through the vendors. Maybe I can get a cute bowtie or a new collar?!

If I sound like I could be the perfect feline friend for you, please call AWS at (207) 985-3244 and ask for me by name. They’ll contact my foster family and before you know it, I’ll be on my way to meet you. Ohhh I can’t wait!!
